Vernon Gibberd is an architect specialising
in follies, garden buildings and furniture design.

His practice started in 1971 in Chelsea, with clients consisting largely of schools, youth and health centres and large private houses.

Later clients included:

  • The National Trust - Visitor shops and restorations of listed buildings
  • The Royal Horticultural Society's gardens at Wisley - Visitor shop
  • Malcolm Forbes (Forbes Magazine USA) - Restoration of Old Battersea House
  • Lord Rothschild - Restoration of five houses for J Rothschild & Co, St James's Place, Westminster
  • The Duke of Norfolk, Arundel Castle - Restoration of the west wing for family occupation
  • Bob Geldof - Designs for a secret garden
  • The Vivat Trust - Designs for the restoration of the Waldershare Belvedere
  • Vanessa Redgrave - Restoration of 18 St Peter's Square, Hammersmith

Follies include:

  • Leeds Castle Foundation, Kent - New aviaries, maze and grotto
  • Kelburn Country Centre, Largs. for Lord Glasgow - Various follies including a pagoda.
  • Pelham Place, Hampshire for Damon de Laszlo - Subterranean grotto and other works including a helter skelter

Furniture Designs

  • Specialist chair designs, toys and other furniture pieces

Other Interests

  • Painting and etching has been a constant sideline, exhibiting in four one-main shows in London (and two in the Chelsea Arts Club) and in various group shows.
